What it is

What is the Chinese gender predictor?

The Chinese gender chart (清宫表) is a folk table said to date back centuries. Its rows are the mother’s lunar age at conception (18–45) and its columns are the twelve lunar months. Each of the 336 cells reads “Boy” or “Girl”.

The hard part of any Chinese gender predictor isn’t the table — it’s the inputs. Lunar age isn’t “your age + 1”, and lunar months don’t line up with January–December. This tool does that conversion carefully using a lunar calendar checked against the Hong Kong Observatory, then shows exactly which cell it read.

  • Correct lunar age, counted from Lunar New Year
  • Lunar month from real new-moon boundaries
  • Leap months read from the same-numbered column
  • Every step visible, nothing hidden

How to use it

FAQ

Chinese gender predictor FAQ

What is the Chinese gender calendar based on?

The Chinese gender calendar (清宫表) is a traditional table said to date back to the Qing court. The Chinese gender predictor reads one fixed cell of it, chosen by the mother’s lunar age and the lunar month of conception. Curious what researchers found when they tested it? Read our guide “Is the Chinese gender chart accurate?”.

What is lunar age?

Lunar age (虚岁) counts 1 at birth and adds a year at every Lunar New Year. It is usually one or two years more than your ordinary age. We calculate it from lunar years, not from Gregorian years.

Why does my result change around late January or February?

Lunar New Year falls between January 21 and February 20. Dates before it belong to the previous lunar year, which can change both your lunar age and the lunar month.

What if I only know the month I conceived?

Choose “I only know the month”. We check every day of that month. If the month spans two lunar months with different chart cells, we show each date range instead of picking one.

How are leap months handled?

A leap month is read from the same numbered column (for example, leap 6th month → column 6). We show a Leap tag so you can see this happened.

Does the chart change every year?

No. Pages titled “2026 chart” or “2027 chart” use the same table. Only the Gregorian dates of each lunar month change, which our calendar shows.

Why do other websites show different results?

Several different versions of the chart circulate online. We use one version, cross-checked cell by cell against three published copies, and we list the cells where other copies disagree on our How it works page.

Do you store my dates?

No. Calculation happens in your browser. Dates are not uploaded, not saved in cookies or local storage, and not added to the page address.
