Chinese gender predictor calculator
The calculator does the two conversions most people get wrong — lunar age and lunar month — and then reads one cell of the traditional Chinese gender calendar. Below the tool you’ll find what to enter and three worked examples.
Enter your dates to see the traditional chart result. No answer is shown until you ask.
Gregorian ↔ lunar month calendar
Pick a Gregorian year (Jan 1 – Dec 31) to see which dates belong to each lunar month. The chart itself never changes from year to year — only the date mapping does.
What to enter
- Mother’s date of birth
- Use the Gregorian (ordinary) date. If you were born in January or February, it matters whether that was before or after Lunar New Year — we handle that.
- Conception date — not the due date
- The chart is indexed by conception, roughly 266 days before the due date or about two weeks after the first day of your last period.
- Only know the month?
- Choose “I only know the month”. If that Gregorian month spans two lunar months with different chart cells, you’ll see both date ranges.
- Already know lunar values?
- Switch to “Enter lunar values” and type the lunar age and lunar month (with the leap-month box if needed).
Worked examples
Real outputs of this calculator. Note how lunar age can be one or two years more than ordinary age.
| Mother born | Conceived | Lunar date of conception | Lunar age | Chart says | Why it’s interesting |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25 Jan 1994 | 10 Feb 2027 | Lunar 2027, month 1 | 35 | Boy | Born before Lunar New Year 1994, so her lunar birth year is 1993: lunar age is two more than her ordinary age (33). |
| 1 May 1990 | 20 Jan 2027 | Lunar 2026, month 12 | 37 | Boy | Conceived before Lunar New Year 2027 (6 Feb), so it still counts as lunar 2026, month 12. |
| 3 Sep 1998 | 1 Jul 2028 | Lunar 2028, leap month 5 | 31 | Girl | A leap 5th month in 2028 — read from column 5, marked “Leap”. |
Three mistakes the calculator avoids
“Age + 1”
Lunar age depends on Lunar New Year, not your birthday. It can be +1 or +2.
Gregorian month = lunar month
March isn’t lunar month 3. Lunar months start at each new moon.
Year changes at Lichun
Some tools switch the year around 4 Feb. The Chinese gender calendar tradition uses Lunar New Year.
